Social Studies Overview for Grade 6

Grade 6 social studies starts with geography skills and projects.  Using models and other visual aids really helps students connect to the world around us.

We use our geography skills to explain the early peoples and how they used their natural resources to develop distinct cultures.  We look at and study the Old and New Stone Age.  Comparing and tracking their growth develops a clear understanding of how people have survived and grown during the eras.

Students explore river civilizations of the ancient world.  This is where we learn about the Mesopotamia, Egypt, Ancient China, and Ancient India.

Then we move on to the Classical civilizations of Ancient Greece and Rome. Many fun projects continues as we demonstrate democracy and how a republic works.

We will also explore the Arab world past and present and many other exciting parts of the world.
